Dylan's Personal Blog

Week 02

Week two, our team's main focus was all about organization and actually articulating our game. After doing so and completing our preliminary game design documents, my focus was mainly on developing our website alongside Anastasia. Throughout the week, we have designed the first draft of our website, as well as pooled together and posting all of our completed work thus far to the website. Really happy with the result of the website so far, and glad we can check of this goal. My goal for next week is to work with the level designers and begin to drafts for concept art for our overall game image and assets.

Week 03

Week three, our team looked to begin establishing core gameplay mechanics, as well as conceptualizing what the game / levels may feel and play like. My main focus for this week was to begin conceptualizing what our user's characters are going to look like, as well as beginning the concept art for one of our level designs. I did fall behind a little bit this week as I got a bit sick, but still pushed through to get an essence of my parts in so we can keep developing our game. By the end, we did get what we were hoping to accomplish done to a degree. I look forward to continuing concepting art for our room designs and potential assets, along with a more refined character concept art. Also looking to establish what our narrative and atmosphere will look like for the scope of our game

Week 04

Week four, our team worked on tuning the mechanics of our game to make it more fun, as well as give the security guard more to do. For this week I worked on developing our game's narrative, and the concept art for one of our rooms and security guard room. For next week I hope to finalize the concept art for the tile room, as well as develop more art for other assets we will be using. Also finalizing the concept art for the security room.

Week 05

Week five, our team ran into issues regarding our original multiplayer centric game model, which we then discussed the new direction of the game, scrapping certain features. After better articulating the direction of our pivot, I worked on getting priority assets done for the pre-alpha build, as well as getting the high priority audio assets done. On the production end, I worked on updating our website's content and asset management document. For next week I am hoping to get more concept work done for assets / rooms,  developing the robot helper concept, and implementing any other needed audio assets.

Week 06

Week six, our team worked on getting assets and more game mechanics implemented for the Alpha1 build. For this week, I worked on concepting our new Robot character, adding other features to our wandering guard concept, concepting other relic models, working on some more audio assets, and updating the website with current documentation. For next week, I hope to be able to concept more relic models, as well as hopefully getting to modeling more assets for the game.

Week 07

Week seven, our team looked to solidify our game loop and improve overall functionality of our build. This week I mainly focused on developing new concept art for our wandering guard character, as well as modeling some modular assets to be placed in the scene, and some another audio placeholder. For next week, I hope to finalize the wandering guard art, as well as creating more modular assets to be put into the scene.

Week 08

Week eight, our team looked to finalize the groundwork of our games fundamentals and mechanics, while also helping decrease the learning curve to the game. This week I mainly worked on the voice dialogue we added to aid the user into knowing about the game mechanics, and how they work. I also worked on creating more modular assets to be added to the scene. For next week, I plan on UVing all my currently made modular assets, and pushing for finalizing their textures, with the overall goal of stylizing our game more. I also plan on trying to play around with our audio clips some more, with the potential for adding / editing to exisiting ones.

Week 09

Week nine, our team looked to implement a new difficulty parameter system, which will allow us to adjust difficulty for our levels. On top of that, other major pushes for this week were to create the lore for our game, redo new dialogue around the lore, add in textured assets, set dress more, and get in the basic lighting our our scene established. I specifically worked on the Lore and new dialogue with Steven, as well as working on some set dressing for our starting room and placing the basic lighting for our scene. For next week, I hope to set dress more, and get in a few more modular pieces for our scene to make it look nicer.

Week 10

Week 10, what a stressful time to be alive. Our team looked to finalize any last minute changes and incorporating any final mechanics. This week I worked mainly on handling the bulk of finalizing the set dressing in our main scene and puzzle rooms. I also concepted and created our teams logo, made another modular asset, and sourced more Bob Ross Painting textures (Bringing our bob ross painting count to around 18!). After finalizing this last build, all that's left is to present and hopefully have our game be the one that continues to Junior Game Workshop II. Hopefully I will be writing here again, but if not, I have loved every bit of this journey and hope to take every experience with me in the future to come.
